The tools are now very fully featured and work across various distributions of Linux including, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Redhat, CentOS, and SUSE.

The Linux Cloud Tools will work with any free account and enabled you to manage any combination of Cloud Storage Providers that you have mapped to your SMEStorage Account.

SkyDrive Cloud

Please note that Microsoft are again making some changes in their authentication procedures which makes the SkyDrive Cloud currently inaccessible via SMEStorage. We are currently evaluating the changes that they have made and if possible will make the changes in our connector code to re-enable access to SkyDrive. We will post an update here when this is done.

The issue is now resolved.

Mac Cloud Drive and Tools updated to Version 1.14

We’ve updated our Mac Cloud Tools to version 1.14. The Mac Cloud Tools work with your SMEStorage Account to enable you to manage the Storage Clouds mapped to your account directly from the Mac desktop either using:

– A network ‘Cloud’ Drive. We integrate with the OpenSource MacFuse to bring the Cloud into your Desktop

– Sync Folder. The Cloud Drive provides a view onto your Cloud data but if you want to keep data in sync from your desktop to (multiple) Clouds then use the Sync folders.

– Spotlight integration. We’ve integrated your Cloud Data with Spotlight so that when you search you also  are returned search results that include your Cloud Data.

More information on the Cloud Tools can be found here and the Wiki pages for the Cloud Tools can be found here.

If you are an existing registered user of the Mac Tools log into the site and download the new version for the “My Cloud Tools” link on the right sidebar.

Updated WordPress Cloud File Sharing Plug-In

We updated our Cloud File Sharing Plug-In for WordPress today. You can download it from the WordPress PlugIn site. This Plug-In enables you to make files public on your SMEStorage Account and share them via a WordPress widget on your sidebar. It supports all the clouds that SMEStorage supports and is a great solution for sharing files on your blog form you Cloud Storage.

This is a good segway to point out our terms of use particularly around sharing copyrighted files of any kind. We comply with the Digital Economy act and scan files with public URL’s to check for copyright abuse. If any is found we mark the file as private and issue a warning email.

Using Zotero with SME and WebDav

Zotero is a firefox plug-in that is an easy to use research tool that aids in gathering, organising, and analysing sources. You can choose to store documents, notes and screenshots that you take directly with Zotero or you can choose to use another WebDav resource.

Of course SMEStorage provides CloudDav, WebDav over any Cloud we support, even if the underlying Cloud does not support WebDav. If you enable CloudDav for your SMEStorage account you can use it with Zotero as follows:

Mac Cloud Tools released !

We are really please to announce that we have released the first version of our Mac Cloud Tools.

The cloud tools encompass:

– A virtual Cloud Drive that works within Finder

– A Desktop to Cloud folder sync utility

– Cloud Files integrated into Spotlight indexing

Unlike other silo’d storage provider SMEStorage works as an abstraction layer above over 15 storage clouds and enables users to access and manage files from all the major storage vendors.

The Cloud Tools really bring the Cloud into the Mac desktop enabling users to witch storage cloud providers by simply changing directory, and editing files becomes as easy as double clicking on the file in question from within the Cloud Drive and saving when done. We’ve also integrated file actions into the Mac Finder on right click so that, amongst other things, you can easily get a URL of a file to share, or generate an email with a file link for example.

Our desktop to folder synchronisation tools makes it easy to keep files from different clouds in sync with different desktop folders. Just drop your files into the folder and the sync tool will pick up and ensure they end up on the relevant Cloud.

Lastly, we’ve integrated spotlight to work with all the Clouds mapped to a SMEStorage Account so that when Spotlight indexes the Cloud files are also searched

Multi Cloud Open Office and MS Word Plug-In Updated

We’ve updated both our OpenOffice and Microsoft Office Toolbar plug-In’s. Both Plug-In’s enable you to create, edit and save documents from any of over 15 storage clouds, including Google Docs, Microsoft SkyDrive, DropBox, MobileMe and more.

As well as bringing the plug-in’s up-to-date with all the current supported clouds, one of the major feature changes was to enable documents to be saved back to the same directory structure when saving back to the Cloud. So if you are editing a document and you save it, then save it again later. The Cloud Save icon will automatically take you back to the correct directory for the save, rather than having to find it yourself.

SME adds Cloud Storage Import/Export Exchange

We’ve added a new feature on our website for users of our Lifetime Cloud or Organisation Cloud packages which is something we are calling ‘The Cloud Import/Export Exchange’. It provides the ability to move data from one Storage Cloud to another.

This can be useful for users who, rather than wanting an aggregated view of all their data, simply want to move data from one Cloud to another as a one-time operation, for example from Amazon S3 to Google Storage, or from RackSpace to Amazon S3, etc.

If you are a Lifetime cloud or Organisation Cloud user, to access the Cloud Import/Export Exchange, simply click on “Cloud Import/Export” from the sidebar after login.
