Enterprise File Fabric 2020 Highlights – Top 5 Features

2020 has certainly been a challenging year for many companies. Here at Storage Made Easy we’ve worked twice as hard to offer users new cutting-edge features and product updates to optimise the offerings of our solution, the Enterprise File Fabric™.

Have a look at the top 5 features we’ve selected:

#1. SMB CONNECTOR

With more companies having remote employees, the File Fabric’s SMB connector has been updated enabling SMB shares to no longer be restricted by boundaries of the office, facilitating cloud-like working with SMB shares without the need for VPN or VDI. The same technology works with Cloud based file systems such as Amazon FSx or Azure files.

#2. JIBE – REAL TIME CONTENT MONITORING OF FILES AND OBJECTS FOR COMPLIANCE AND SEARCH

The brand new feature Jibe is a service that is able to monitor data that is added to a company’s file or object data estates directly.

As the File Fabric does not lock customers into having to use it directly to access and work with data, Jibe is a mechanism to ensure that the File Fabric metadata is instantly updated as new files or objects are directly added. This enables the File Fabric to analyze new data in near real-time, updating its ‘smart index’ immediately and enforcing security controls which include: taking immediate protective action on exposed PHI / PII data and make the data available to end users and other system workflows.

#3. ON-DEMAND TRANSCODING FOR ALL TYPES OF MEDIA FILES

The File Fabric now provides on-demand transcoding between a range of video file formats for customers using the File Fabric’s Media and Entertainment module.

Using transcoding the Enterprise File Fabric can convert unsupported media files into a web compatible form, without altering the original copy.  Additionally, the process of transcoding can also, if required, produce a lower quality (and thus smaller) version of the original.

When many users are working against a library of large video assets creating a proxy can save time, and substantial money, particularly if such assets are stored on cloud storage where each download has an egress charge.

#4. MICROSOFT TEAMS AND SLACK INTEGRATIONS

With people forced to work remotely due to Covid-19, we felt it was worth refreshing the specific integration with Slack that promotes securely sharing files, from just about any storage repository, directly from Slack.

Also, the File Fabric has been integrated with Microsoft Teams to provide easy in-situ access through Teams for companies that have adopted this tool for remote working and collaboration. This reduces friction and increases productivity for remote Teams that use the File Fabric to access File or Object data and who ‘live in Teams’ during their working day.

#5. FOREVER FILE – DISASTER AND RANSOMWARE PROTECTION FEATURE

Organizations are grappling with the exponential growth of unstructured data. They are managing every more data silos across desktops, mobile devices, in data centers and increasingly in third-party cloud storage and applications. Additionally, new storage technologies offer new options for hosting, backing up and archiving data.

ForeverFile™ is a highly available disaster and ransomware protection feature that continuously protects data, wherever it is stored.
