Storage Made Easy’s core product proposition is its Enterprise File Fabric product, which unifies an enterprise’s file storage – whether on-premises or in the cloud – providing federated policy and governance for corporate data.
Customers have asked us if we can break out our desktop apps so they can work directly against various enterprise storage products to satisfy lightweight and specific use cases. To that end we are releasing a range of Drives and Explorers that bring object storage directly to the end user’s desktop. There are versions of these tools for a variety of object storage providers such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, Red Hat Ceph, Rackspace, Google Storage and others.
Over time we intend to have both Mac and Windows versions of these tools for each of the storage providers we support in this direct capacity. At the moment we don’t have a native Mac desktop Explorer for the S3 compatible storage, so to address this in the short term we have packaged the Windows explorer version with Wineskin for use on the Mac. Wineskin is an implementation of Wine, which provides a way to run native Windows applications on the Mac.
It seems to be working well.
You can download the Mac S3 Explorer with a trial license good to the end of June here.
Give it a try and let us know what you think.by
