SMEStorage is now integrated with ScribD using their iPaper API which allow PDF’s to be viewed inline within the browser from SMEStorage without having to download them to view them. This compliments existing integration within the SMEStorage platform that allows users to view and edit Microsoft Office documents and view and edit graphic files.

It’s now possible to import your AOL xDrive files to the SMEStorage platform. Once you have logged in, just look for the “AOL xDrive import” link. Now, despite the announcement from AOL that xDrive is to close down, xDrive users have an easy option to migrate their files.
by Business Groups are one of the collaboration of SMEStorage. The basic premise is that you can create a Group and invite users to it. This is very easy to do as you can see from our previous post on groups. Anything that you then share with the Group will be shared with all members of the group. Group members will receive an automated email message letting them know that a new file has been shared with them. Members can also receive Twitter messages when a file is shared with them if they have chosen to enter their Twitter details in their SMEStorage user preferences. You can also choose to allow other users to share files with your business group.
So what are groups useful for ? Well we polled some of our users to see what they were using them for and we found some interesting uses. One of our users is using Groups as a way to keep his sales partners updated with corporate product collateral and technical documentation. He has formed what he calls a “content sharing network”.
Another of our users is in a band and after doing some live recording he tweaks the results in Garage Band and shares them with his bandmates.
Many others are using the Business Groups to keep in touch with family by sharing photos and files
Quite an innovative and bandwidth friendly use is that users are using Business Groups to share jokes etc. Normally friends have a user list in which they send the same joke, which can include a video and picture, to all their friends. Using Business Groups they just do an upload and all their friends get notified.
We’ve had quite a few feature requests for Business Groups and we will consider adding some of the more common ones, such as allowing the option to make business group members private. Watch this space for the rest !

by The email backup feature has been live on the site for a while now so we thought is was about time we did a feature on it. To access the Email Backup feature click on “My Backups” in the file tree and you will see the email backup toolbar.
Fill in the account details as below:
Once you have filled in the account details click the email backup icon and if you have configured this correctly then your emails will being to backup and you can can access them from your account or though your iPhone. If you get an error choose edit and then change your details – you may need to check the secure email checkbox.
We would recommend that you clean out your email account from very large files before you do the backup otherwise this may take a while.
by After feedback we have one more bugfix to issue for this before is finally leaves beta. This is to do with the Token expiry which currently does not work. Once the token expires you are asked to log back in even if you are uploading files. We have updated the Token expiry time to one hour and will have the plug-in fix released in the next few days.
by The final version of the Firefox plug-in for SMEStorage can be downloaded here. It fixes some small bugs and also now allows files to be shared using the plug-in and also for groups to be administered also using the plug-in.
To intall the Plug-In, download it and then either drag it onto the Firefox screen and release and it will auto-install, or choose file, open from the Firefox menu and locate the plug-in to install.
by We have introduced a new feature that is currently in beta but that is live on the site. It allows you to set a file / files to be public. Once it has been set to public the files can be accessed from your public url which takes the format: http://www.storagemadeeasy.com/users/.
To set the file to be public just click on the file and then the share file icon (the icon to the very right of the file name). Choose to set the file to public and then click ‘Set’.
Once the file is uploaded if you go to your public files url as described above you will see the shared public files
You can tell that the file is now public as opposed to just shared with a Group as the box around the file has two red spikes comes from it that designate it as public.
by Live for SMEStorage as from now is Twitter integration. You can now enter your Twitter details within your information settings and anytime a user shares a file directly with you via the user of Groups you will get an instant SMS message telling you the name of the file shared – how cool is that !
This also works if a file is shared with you on the move from the iPhone version of the application
