Multi Cloud Open Office and MS Word Plug-In Updated

We’ve updated both our OpenOffice and Microsoft Office Toolbar plug-In’s. Both Plug-In’s enable you to create, edit and save documents from any of over 15 storage clouds, including Google Docs, Microsoft SkyDrive, DropBox, MobileMe and more.

As well as bringing the plug-in’s up-to-date with all the current supported clouds, one of the major feature changes was to enable documents to be saved back to the same directory structure when saving back to the Cloud. So if you are editing a document and you save it, then save it again later. The Cloud Save icon will automatically take you back to the correct directory for the save, rather than having to find it yourself.

Multi-Cloud File Manager released for Open Office

The first independent release of the SMEStorage file Manager is now released and available for download on the OpenOffice.org extension site.

The extension enables you to open and save files directly to/from your primary SMEStorage cloud, be that Amazon S3, Gmail-as-a-Cloud, Email-as-a-Cloud, FTP-as-a-Cloud, Box.net, MobileMe, Mosso CloudFiles, WebDav Cloud, and now MIcrosoft Live SkyDrive also ( next post).

Once installed you will see a new SMEStorage toolbar which you can then use to open and save documents to your cloud of choice.

The extension currently works only for OpenOffice on windows but if enough people request it, we will also enable it to work on other OS’s also.

A SMEStorage account is required to use the plug-in.

You can view a video demo of the Plug-In on YouTube.

This plug-in is again based on our Multi-Cloud API.

Update: For those who had an issue saving file, please see this support thread.

Upload and download your files to the cloud and Amazon S3 with a Windows Explorer as well as Microsoft Office and Open Office !

Well, SMEStorage Explorer is finally released. It is a windows explorer for SMEStorage.com that allows you to upload and download your files to any of the storage platforms we support, which include Amazon S3. If you take part in our OpenS3 programme you can use your Amazon S3 keys and take advantage of using the tool to upload / download files, share files, and collaborate with business groups.

When you install SMEStorage Explorer, if you have Microsoft Office and/or OpenOffice installed you will get another toolbar that allows you to open and save files to the SMEStorage cloud, which again includes Amazon S3. Pretty nice we think. This was built using the SMEStorage REST API.
