Doug on Data: Delivering the Last Mile of Object Storage to End Users

Object Storage is the way forward for all your storage needs, it’s adaptable meaning it grows with your storage needs, it’s economical, being that you only pay for what you need, but it does also have a number of drawbacks. Object Storage is not easily accessible to end users, and often it lacks auditing controls, which can open your business up to a whole range of problems around security and governance of data.

So what do you do? Struggle on with Block storage that is often increasingly difficult to enlarge when your company grows? Or move to Object storage and struggle to keep control over your data?

OpenStack Swift Mac Drive Beta Released

<Updated October 6th 2016>

Today at the OpenStack Summit Austin we are releasing the beta version of the Storage Made Easy OpenStack Swift dedicated Drive for Mac Operating Systems (El Capitan and Mavericks supported).

The drive can be downloaded from here. It also installs and makes use of FUSE for OS X that allows extensions to OS X’s native file handling capabilities via third-party file systems.

Automatically Archiving CIFS Windows Shares to OpenStack Swift, Amazon S3 and other object storage clouds

Following on from our last post in which we demonstrated how CIFS Windows  shares can be exposed outside of the corporate firewall this blog post will focus on how to Archive CIFS Windows shares to OpenStack Swift.

The SME Enterprise Cloud Appliance allows any primary cloud to be paired with a backup cloud for archive and business continuity purposes.

Editing files from OpenStack Swift and other Clouds directly from mobile Microsoft Office

We recently released a new version of the Storage Made Easy Android Application, the Android client for the SME Enterprise File Share and Sync Fabric.

One of the new features in the updated App was to provide the ability to View, edit and create Microsoft  Office files directly from the data stores configured for the SME Sync and Share Appliance.

To be able to do this firstly ensure that you have installed the SME Cloud File Manager from the Android App Store.

The below video is a deep dive on how to setup Active Directory / LDAP for seamless integration from the Storage Made Easy Enterprise File Share and Sync with a Swift Container.

The deep dive is done against a SwiftStack cluster and it also demonstrate how, as part of the auto-provisioning, data retention and versioning policies can be set to handle corporate data compliance rules.

A look at retaining Brand Identity using Storage Made Easy’s File Fabric self-service branding features

Corporate brand identity management is a key issue for any organisation. Various surveys have indicated that companies who pay special attention to their corporate brand identity  influence employees’ commitment to their organisations, in addition to consolidating their brand identity.

To that end Storage Made Easy has consistently provided a way to brand their File Fabric Solution, either when used as a federated fabric or as a dedicated solution for storage solutions such as OpenStack.
